Meet Ewan The Saxophonist Behind Shades of Sax

With more than 1,000 weddings and events performed worldwide, Ewan brings energy, style and atmosphere to celebrations through the unique power of live saxophone.

About Ewan

Music has been part of Ewan’s life from an early age. His musical journey began at just eight years old, performing in jazz bands and developing a deep passion for live performance.

Over the years he studied and performed across the UK, touring internationally as a young musician and later achieving formal qualifications including Grade 8 in both Saxophone and Singing through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Alongside instrumental performance, Ewan also performed as a vocalist with the National Youth Choir of Scotland, including singing for The Queen at the opening of the Scottish Parliament.

Ewan went on to study BA Applied Music at the University of Strathclyde, graduating with First Class Honours. During his studies he was selected for the university’s international exchange programme in the United States, where he continued developing his performance style through jazz, soul and live band work.

These experiences shaped not only his musical ability but also his understanding of performance, audience connection and the atmosphere that live music can create.

Over time that passion evolved into Shades of Sax, where Ewan now performs professionally at weddings, corporate events and luxury celebrations across the UK and internationally.

About Connie

Behind the scenes of Shades of Sax, Ewan’s wife plays an important role in ensuring every performance runs as smoothly off stage as it does on it.

While Ewan focuses on delivering the music and energy that defines each event, she oversees the organisation that supports it. From managing enquiries and coordinating international travel to curating the visual presence of Shades of Sax, her role centres on the details that help each performance come together effortlessly.

On the day of an event, she works closely with planners, venues and event teams, helping ensure timings, logistics and communication run seamlessly so Ewan can focus entirely on the performance.

Together, they combine creativity and organisation to deliver experiences that feel polished, effortless and memorable for every couple, client and audience.

A Performance Style Built Around Atmosphere

Ewan’s performances are known for combining elegance, energy and interaction.

Live saxophone has a unique ability to move naturally within a space, allowing the music to become part of the atmosphere rather than simply something heard in the background.

Through Shades of Sax, Ewan specialises in creating performances that evolve throughout an event. From relaxed and sophisticated background music during drinks receptions to high energy performances that fill the dancefloor later in the evening.

One of the skills clients value most is Ewan’s natural instinct for reading the room. Every audience is different, and every event has its own rhythm. By adapting the music and energy to the moment, the performance always feels seamless and perfectly suited to the celebration.

Whether performing at a luxury wedding, a corporate event or a destination celebration abroad, the goal remains the same — to create an atmosphere that guests genuinely feel part of.

Experience Performing Around the World

Through Shades of Sax, Ewan has performed at more than 1,000 weddings and over 100 corporate events across the UK and internationally.

His performances have taken him to destinations including Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Cyprus and the United States, bringing live saxophone entertainment to celebrations around the world.

Ewan has also performed at prestigious venues and events such as The Balmoral in Edinburgh, Cameron House, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Scottish Gas Murrayfield, as well as numerous luxury wedding venues across the UK.

Alongside destination weddings and private celebrations, Ewan regularly performs at corporate events including award ceremonies, brand launches and gala dinners.

Despite the scale and variety of events he performs at, the approach remains personal. Each booking is carefully planned, communication is clear and every performance is tailored to suit the people and the moment.

Because when the music is right, it becomes part of the story guests remember long after the event has ended.
